A warm welcome to the Sandwell group of Ramblers. We pride ourselves on being both culturally diverse and the friendliest walking club in the country! We are exploring ways of offering different grades of walk and social events to suit all tastes. Please offer to help wherever your talents lie. Don’t hesitate to ask us questions and suggest ways that we can improve your experiences with us.At the moment, we try to offer a full day’s walk on Sunday and a shorter walk during the week where possible. We depend on what you and our partners can offer us.
The beauty of walking is that you need very little to get going. You are advised to bring comfortable boots or stout footwear, waterproof clothing, a hat, sun protection in the Summer and gloves in the Winter. Bring plenty of water, and a packed lunch for day walks. We will sometimes stop in a pub so please be prepared to cover your boots, or take them off. A change of footwear is required if you are a passenger.
We have great walk leaders. Please support them and show your appreciation for the hard work involved in piecing a walk together. Your leaders are the beating heart of your group! We hope that you will lead for us too before long.
At the moment, we usually meet at the Sandwell Road car park, Sandwell Road, West Bromwich, B70 8TG, off the High Street, for 9 am on Sunday. You can also meet at the walk starting point. Walks during the week vary, usually only meeting at the walk starting point. Always check our walks programme first.
Our group encourages car sharing (at your own risk) and, on Sundays, walkers often meet at Sandwell Road car park. Drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers. As a guide, 7 pence per mile per passenger with a recommended minimum voluntary contribution of £3 is considered an amount which reasonably covers the costs incurred by the driver. Sometimes, public transport is used. During the week, we usually meet at the walk starting point.
Walks may occasionally have to be changed at short notice. Registered Assistance Dogs Only. Members and their guests take part in all events at their own risk. Children should be accompanied by adults. You are requested to keep behind the leader and co-operate with her or him, especially when asked to walk in single file along roads or across fields. Please avoid noise when close to houses or animals and comply with the country code.
We try to run walks whatever the weather but in extreme weather conditions it is wise to contact the walk leader in case of changes.
